| DAY 4 |
After breakfast hike to Chorten Ningpo, which dates back to the 17th Century. The chorten is a little-known spot with a magnificent statue of Maitreya (the future Buddha) and images of the great lamas of the Drukpa lineage. This magical spot was once a dense forest inhabited by evil spirits. The great oak tree outside the monastery is said to have grown out of the blazing log that the ‘Divine Madman’ threw (the tree’s bark is still black from where it was burnt). In 2005 the monastery began to house orphans from the nearby village, and founding a small Buddhist educational institution where the children can study traditional Buddhist scriptures and texts as well as Western subjects. The hike back to Punakha is around 45 minutes, going past Thodrup Lhakhang. Then you can drive approximately 3 hours to Gangtey at 2900 metres. Enjoy the views of the immense and remote Phobjikha valley and the black mountain ranges. Visit Gangtey Gompa (one of Bhutan’s oldest monasteries and recently extensively renovated) and explore the valley where the villagers continue to live a traditional Bhutanese rural lifestyle. This is the site where black-necked cranes visit in their hundreds in November each year after spending the summer in Tibet. Overnight in Gangtey |
||
| DAY 5 |
Today you can do a day walk around the Phobjikha Valley. You can start your walk at the Dewachen hotel and walk from here to the Black-Necked Crane Information Centre, which has lots of information on the valley and its famous migrating birds. From here you can walk to Beta Village, then continue to Gangtey Gompa from where you can walk along the Gangtey Nature Trail, past Semchubara village, through forests of blue pine trees covered with lichen (known as old man’s beard) and where you can hopefully see some birds. Continue from the end of the nature trail to Kingathang village where you can visit a temple built by the Queen Mother. From Kingathang, you can walk via Yusa village back to your hotel. Total distance 12 to 13 km (6 to 7 hrs). Overnight in Gangtey |
||
| DAY 6 |
Today we return to Paro, a drive of approximately 7 hours, via Wangdi. Wangdi (also known as Wangdue Phodrang) was originally considered Bhutan’s secondary capital and it commands an important central position. Sadly Wangdi Dzong was gutted by fire in June 2012, destroying in a few hours not only a magnificent building that had stood proudly for hundreds of years, but also the painstaking work that had been in progress for many months to rebuild recent earthquake damage using traditional construction methods. There is little now to see in Wangdi and after a brief stop for lunch continue on your way. In the afternoon there will be time to visit some handicraft shops to purchase some souvenirs of your trip. Then you can meet your host family for an overnight stay in a local farmhouse allowing you to experience traditional Bhutanese village life. Take the opportunity to try the restorative properties of a hot stone bath. If you prefer your creature comforts, you can take tea or dinner with the family and then return to your hotel. Overnight in Paro |
||
| DAY 7 |
This morning you can visit the impressive Paro Rinpung Dzong, one of the finest examples of Bhutanese architecture. You can also visit the National Museum. This was previously housed in the Ta Dzong (watch tower) built on top of the hill above Rinpung Dzong to defend Rinpung Dzong and the Paro valley during times of war, in an unusual circular construction resembling a conch shell. Unfortunately, an earthquake in September 2011 damaged the Ta Dzong and the contents of the museum were moved to a neighbouring building. You can still see a magnificent collection of Bhutanese artefacts – costumes, religious paintings, arms, textiles and a fascinating collection of Bhutan stamps. The National Museum is due to reopen in the Ta Dzong in 2017. Near to the museum you may also be able to see a demonstration of traditional wood turning skills by local artisans who make traditional wooden bowls and cups – and you can try your hand as well if you wish. Nearby you can also visit the 7th century Kyichu Lhakhang, a temple of historical significance and one of the most sacred shrines in Bhutan. Overnight in Paro |
||
| DAY 8 |
Take a day walk to the ‘Tiger’s Nest’, the sacred Taktshang monastery which clings to the rock face 900 metres above the valley floor. Guru Rinpoche is said to have flown to the site riding on a tigress. He subsequently meditated here for three months. It is one of Bhutan’s most holy sites and draws pilgrims not only from Bhutan but also from neighbouring Buddhist countries. You can have lunch at the Taktshang cafeteria from where you get a spectacular view of the monastery. On the way back you may be interested to visit a manor house turned museum in a local village. The house dates from the 17th Century and the museum is designed to showcase the culture of medieval rural Bhutan. Afterwards you may also have time to visit Dumtse Lhakhang, a temple built by Thangtong Gyalpo, the iron bridge builder. Overnight in Paro |
||
| DAY 9 | Early in the morning we will drive to Gelephu from Paro which will take about 8 – 9 hours. Your guide will accompany you to Gelephu to see you off and wish you Tashi Delek (goodbye and good luck). |

“TEA TOUR”
# TEA TOUR Mention Only in Assam #
(We make all the arrangements for other TEA TOUR places also)
Tea & Golf
Assam has been synonymous with tea ever since Briton Robert Bruce claimed to have discovered it in 1823, though the Singpho tribal people living in areas straddling Assam and Arunachal Pradesh cultivated and drank tea as a herbal rejuvenator for ages.
With more than 800 major and 60,000 small estates spread across 300,000 hectares, Assam has the world’s largest concentration of tea plantations and employs 17% of the State’s workforce. Assam tea accounts for 55% of India’s total tea production and 80% of the country’s export.
In 1829, India became the first country outside Great Britain to have a golf course. The country offers many world-class greens today, laid at Himalayan heights, in desert, military cantonments by forests and lakes and in urban areas. But Assam’s ‘tea-tees’ – golf courses in tea estates – are in a class of their own. There are some 20 tea-tees, natural and almost all with nine holes. Within 200 km of each other, these golf courses prepared essentially to enhance the lifestyle of British planters transport one to the grandeur of the Raj days. Today, they are helping the estates package them as exotic holiday destinations where tee-putt is as exhilarating as the teapot.
Cuppa Cheer :
In 1833, a British panel sent George Gordon to China to study plantation techniques and implement them in Assam. Gordon returned with Chinese camellia (tea plant) specimens and workers since the local variety was not commercially viable though more suited to ambient conditions. Crossing the local and Chinese varieties yielded the perfect Indian hybrid, plucked by the ‘tea tribes’ comprising 87 central Indian communities relocated by British planters form central India 150 years ago.
In 1911, the Tocklai Tea Research Centre, the oldest and largest Tea Research Centre in the world was established at Tocklai in Jorhat for developing more scientific and fruitful methods of cultivating tea plants, applying fertilizer, testing soil, selecting sites for garden and processing tea leaves. Brand Assam has invariably been the distinctive black teas (crush tear and curl or CTC). The state also produces a small quantity of distinctive organic orthodox tea that was granted GI status in 2007.
For a better marketing of the tea produced in Assam and the entire North EasternStates, a Tea Auction Centre – Guwahati Tea Auction Centre – was established in 1970 at Guwahati. The bulk of Assam’s teas are sold through the Guwahati Tea Auction Centre. A special logo assigned by Tea Board of India separates Assam Tea from others in the international market. On an average, Assam produces 550 million kg of tea. They cheer and refresh more than 85% Indians every day.
Tea-tee :
A stay in the tea garden, playing golf and driving through tea country is an unforgettable experience. This beautiful state has sprawling lush green tea estates with old-world bungalows, most of which have golf courses attached to them. Besides classical clubhouses for post-golf sessions, some of these estates have airstrips for tourists to arrive and take off in chartered aircraft. Professional golfers swore by the 18-hole Digboi Golf Course that Digboi Refinery lords over in eastern Assam’s Digboi town until the Kaziranga Golf Resort came up in the middle of a tea estate in Jorhat.
Designed by one of India’s leading golf course architect, the resort has a challenging 18-hole, par-71 golf course that is the first of its kind. The club house is the heritage Burra Sahib’s Bungalow. The resort also offers a golf academy with professional coaching and a well-equipped golf pro shop.

Major Historical Monuments of Assam
Sivasagar – The Glorious Ahom Heritage
Rang Ghar
An iconic 18th-century structure in Sivasagar, the Rang Ghar is Asia’s first amphitheatre and a classic example of Ahom architecture. This two-storied, octagonal monument was built using a unique blend of materials such as jaggery, black gram paste, elephant grass, lime, snail ooze, fish bones, mustard oil, bricks, and stones. It served as a royal pavilion where Ahom kings and nobles watched buffalo fights, duels, and sports events.
Talatal Ghar
Close to Rang Ghar, the Talatal Ghar or “Underground Palace” is the largest Ahom monument. It originally had seven storeys—three underground with two secret escape tunnels (one reportedly 16 km long). Though the underground chambers are sealed, the upper structures remain open for visitors.
Kareng Ghar
Another magnificent Ahom palace showcasing the architectural prowess of the dynasty.
Sibsagar Tanks
Large water tanks like the famous Sivasagar Tank were built using indigenous technology that allows them to retain water throughout the year.
Charaideo Maidams (UNESCO World Heritage Site)
Located near Sivasagar, these pyramid-shaped burial mounds served as royal vaults for Ahom kings and queens. Their domed structures, covered with earth, are reminiscent of ancient Egyptian pyramids.
Tezpur and Surroundings
Da-Parbatia Temple Ruins
Near Tezpur, Da-Parbatia features the oldest known sculptural art in Assam. The door frame, adorned with carvings of goddesses Ganga and Yamuna, is a fine specimen of early Gupta-style artistry.
Agnigarh
Situated on a hill by the Brahmaputra, Agnigarh is steeped in legend. It is believed that King Bana built a fiery fortress here to protect his daughter Princess Usha. Today, it offers panoramic views of Tezpur and the surrounding river landscape.
Near Guwahati
Madan Kamdev
Located about 40 km from Guwahati on NH-52, Madan Kamdev is often referred to as “The Khajuraho of Assam” due to its ancient erotic sculptures. These 9th–10th century temple ruins remain shrouded in mystery with little historical documentation.
Ambari Excavations
Situated in the heart of Guwahati near Dighalipukhuri, Ambari reveals artifacts from two distinct cultural phases (7th–12th AD and 13th–17th AD). Discoveries include kaolin, red, and buff ceramic wares, along with Chinese celadon and green-glazed items.
Western Assam
Suryapahar
Located around 136 km west of Guwahati, this unique archaeological site showcases the harmonious coexistence of Hindu, Buddhist, and Jain relics. Hundreds of carved Shiva Lingas, Buddhist stupas, Jain sculptures, and remnants of ancient housing structures have been unearthed here.
Kaziranga Region
Deoparbat (Deopahar)
Adjacent to Kaziranga National Park, Deoparbat is a small hillock with stone carvings and temple ruins from the 8th–9th centuries. The site is near Garampani Wildlife Sanctuary and is rich in biodiversity, including golden langurs and hoolock gibbons. The nearby hot spring adds to the site’s uniqueness.
Jorhat Region
Lachit Moidam (Hoolungapara)
This is the tomb of the legendary Ahom general Lachit Borphukan, who led the decisive victory against the Mughals in the 1671 Battle of Saraighat.
Raja Moidam & Purnananda Buragohain Moidam
Located near Tocklai, these tombs commemorate King Purandar Singha and his military advisor Purnananda Buragohain.
